October 2023 Breast Cancer Screening Programme
In October 2023, Stepin Women Foundation and Roche Ghana conducted a breast cancer
awareness, sensitisation and screening programme across the Sekondi-Takoradi
Metropolitan Area. The programme report records 2,305 people screened,
184 issues identified, 335 referrals for mammogram and
106 referrals for breast ultrasound.
Follow-up information through 18 December 2023 records 36 people indicated for biopsy
(35 women and 1 man), 14 confirmed malignancy cases, 15 needing support for biopsy and
metastatic work-up, and 7 who had started treatment, with confirmed cases aged 29–68.
A screening finding does not by itself mean that a person has cancer. These are
historical figures from the 2023 programme, not current Stepin statistics.
